Vishtynetskoe Lake
Feelings that people experiences when they come to the shore of that amazing lake are quite special. Vishtynetskoe Lake is the largest, deepest, cleanest and richest in our region. The surface of its water mirror occupies more than 16 square kilometres, and the maximum depth is up to 54 metres. Supplied by the water from numerous springs and streams of the Vishtynets Upland, the lake represents a very large reservoir filled with 258 million cubic metres of fresh water. Only one single river flows from it, the river Pissa. Through the rivers of Angrapa, Pregolya and the Vistula Lagoon, it connects Vishtinets with the sea. In the lake there are 22 species of fish, among which are such valuable as Coregonus albula (known as vendace or European cisco), eel, gwyniad, tench, burbot and others. A variety of invertebrate animals living in the lake, about 150 species. In winter the lake freezes. At any time of the year the shores of the lake are picturesque, and in the summer time clean water and magnificent nature attract many tourists there.
