Dancing Forest (Curonian Spit)
On the Curonian Spit, you can see a coniferous forest, the trunks of which are looped in the form of bizarre zigzags. This forest is called ‘dancing’. It is hard to imagine what makes conifers so dance there. In general, the Curonian Spit is quite a mysterious place.
- Route – 0.8 km;
- Location – 37th km of the spit, 4 km to the north of Rybachy village;
- The route introduces an unusual piece of the pine forest planted in the early 1960's of the XX century on the dune Kruglaya (Runderberg - Round Mountain). Unlike most of the Spit’s dunes stretching along the shore of the Curonian Lagoon, the free-standing dune Kruglaya is located right on the ‘Palve’, a flat wooded plain between the sea and lagoon.
For some unknown reason, the trunks of the trees have an unusual 'twisted’ shape there. At the beginning of the route, the foundations of the old German glider school are preserved.
The information is from the official website of the (Curonian Spit) National Park.
