Fort 11 Doenhoff
Fort 11 Doenhof was built in 1877-1882; it was to cover the railway to Insterburg. Originally, the fort was called Seligenfeld, by the name of a nearby village, and in 1894 it was named after the representatives of the famous family von Doenhoff.
Fort 11 is a hexagon drawn out along the front and surrounded by a water moat. The central structure is protected by an earth rampart. The internal premises and the two inner yards are symmetrically located relative to the central postern.
During the April battles of 1945 Fort 11 Doenhoff did not render any stubborn resistance to the advancing units of the Red Army, the garrison capitulated at about 1 PM on 7 April 1945.
